Math News
This week your child continues using graphs to organize, represent, and interpret data. They count objects to collect data, show it in a graph, a picture graph, or a tally chart, and then compare the categories using the greater than (>) and less than (<) symbols.
Key terms and symbols: graph, picture graph, tally chart, greater than >, less than <
Try this at home — Make a Graph: Collect data about things around you, such as the number of buttons, pockets, and zippers on your clothing, and invite your child to show it in a picture graph or tally chart. Then ask:
• "Do you have more buttons or more pockets? How do you know?"
• "Can you write it with a symbol? 5 > 3."

Literacy News
SLA: This week we are exploring maps of our neighborhood. Students will read, discuss, and write as they answer the question: What does a map of my neighborhood look like? At home, you can support your child's learning by practicing the names and sounds of the letters in Spanish together.
ELA: This week in ELA we continue our unit on Maps. Our focus question is, "What is the world made of?" We will start with the seven continents and five oceans. At home, talk with your child about what the Earth is made of.
Reading at home: Please make time for your child to read to you for at least 20 minutes a day, in both English and Spanish, and talk together about what they read. Strong reading habits now will help them grow into confident learners.
