It's almost October and parent-teacher conferences will occur next Thursday, October 9. Be on the lookout, as we will be sending the PTC sign-up sheet this week. See you next week!

Ya casi es octubre y las conferencias de padres y maestros se llevarán a cabo el próximo jueves, 9 de octubre. Estén atentos, ya que esta semana enviaremos la hoja de inscripción para las conferencias. ¡Nos vemos la próxima semana!

Math News Noticias de Matemáticas

This week, we will be learning about the "commutative property". Students will grasp the understanding that even when the two addends change places the total will always remain the same (i.e., 2+3= 5 and 3+2= 5). We will continue to work on our addition strategy--counting on from a number to help us solve problems. At home, have your kiddo solve the following problems: 1) 7+4 = ___ 2) 4+7= ___ 3) 5+3= __ 4) 3+5 = __. Ask them to explain the strategy that they used to solve.

SLA: In word study, we are continuing to learn about diphthongs. In reading and writing, we will read, discuss, and write to answer the question: What does the map of the Earth look like? Please practice reading, writing, and breaking into syllables the following words: bailar (bai-lar), veinte (vein-te), reina (rei-na), autor (au-tor), and others that contain diphthongs. For this practice, you should use the diphthong chart we sent home with the homework packet. Continue reading at least 20 minutes each day.

ELA: We are continuing our first unit on Maps. Our focus question this week is "How do I use a map of my world?". We will be using vocabulary words such as continents, oceans, and landmarks. Discuss the 7 continents and 5 oceans with your student. Make sure your student is reading to you in English and in Spanish every night!
