What We're Learning Lo Que Estamos Aprendiendo

From your teacher De tu maestra

We hope you enjoyed the extended weekend! This week, we will finish up ACCESS testing, so please help students arrive at school on time to minimize disruptions and support a focused testing environment. This week, we are learning about Benjamin Banneker, a Black mathematician and astronomer who helped survey Washington, DC, and built an extraordinary wooden clock. Throughout February, we are celebrating Black History Month by learning how Black Americans have shaped our country through their creativity, leadership, innovation, and courage in the ongoing work for justice. Thank you for your continued support!

In math, we will be finishing module 3. At home, continue to use the number path to practice counting onward and backward from a number. For addition, have your kiddo solve 9+6 using the strategy "make a ten" and have them solve 15-6 using "taking away from 10". Then, have your kiddo explain their reasoning.

This week, students will continue working with family stories across both Spanish (SLA) and English (ELA). In Spanish, we will read a new family story and compare and contrast its elements with a story we have already read. In word study, students will work with infinitive verbs ending in -ar, -er, and -ir (such as abandonar, prometer, and descubrir), as well as past-tense verbs ending in -é and -í (such as nací, dibujé, abrí, and pregunté). In English, students will write their small moment stories, adding rich descriptive details using their senses and feelings.
