What We're Learning Lo Que Estamos Aprendiendo

Welcome · Math · Literacy Bienvenida · Mates · Lectura

From your teacher De tu maestra

This a short 2-day week and we hope you all enjoy Thanksgiving with your loved ones. Also, We plan to conduct the classroom Spelling Bee on Monday, December 8. Please ask students to start studying the list of words that was previously handed to students. Thanks!

¡Gracias!

Math News Noticias de Matemáticas

This week, we're beginning a new math topic that can be tricky for students: comparison problems. Students will learn to compare two quantities and use addition or subtraction to figure out how many more or fewer one group has than another. For example: Juan has 8 pencils and Lisa has 5—how many more does Juan have? Students can solve by adding 5 + __ = 8 or subtracting 8 – 5 = __. Practice at home with real objects like blueberries or crackers; concrete practice helps build strong understanding before moving on to more abstract work in class.

This week in literacy, students will continue building their reading and writing skills in both English and Spanish. In ELA, we will keep learning about digraphs—two letters that make one sound—such as sh, ch, ph, wh, th, and ck. Students will also continue their work on endangered animals as they edit and develop their bilingual animal books.

In Spanish (SLA), we will review all of the word study skills practiced so far and read texts and complete activities related to Thanksgiving. As we head into the break, please encourage your child to read for at least 20 minutes each day in both languages and to continue practicing their heart word flashcards.
