Happy October! It was great seeing many of you last Friday at our Hispanic Heritage celebration. As the weather changes, please make sure students are dressed accordinly, and perhaps in layers to they can stay adequately warm or cool from room to room.
This week, we will be starting Module 2! Woohoo! At home, please review the steps on how to solve a word problem RDW (Read, Draw, Write)*you received this during PTCs*. Ask them what they should do while reading, drawing and writing their answer.
SLA: This week we're beginning our unit on endangered animals. We'll kick things off with a fun activity called "The School Zoo," then read books and do a gallery walk to choose an animal to study. In word study, we'll read and write words ending in -ar, -er, -ir, -an, and -en, and review words with b and v. Please practice reading and writing sentences using trabajar (to work), regresar (to return), conocer (to meet/know), escribir (to write), preguntan (they ask), and enseñan (they teach). Continue reading daily for 20 minutes and asking your child questions about the reading.
ELA: We are starting our second unit on Endangered Animals! We will be researching endangered animals around the world while reading nonfiction texts. Please discuss the word endangered with your student. What does it mean? What are some endangered animals that you know of? Remember to have your student read to you every day for 20 minutes in English and Spanish.
