What We're Learning Lo Que Estamos Aprendiendo

From your teacher De tu maestra

Happy November! We finished Term 1 last Friday and starting Term 2 this week, so we'll be processing grades in the coming weeks. Be on the lookout for that. Have a great week!

¡Feliz noviembre! Terminamos el primer trimestre el viernes pasado y comenzamos el segundo esta semana, así que procesaremos las calificaciones en las próximas semanas. Estén atentos. ¡Que tengan una excelente semana!

Math News Noticias de Matemáticas

This week in math, students are working in Topic C: Finding an Unknown Part in Change-Unknown Problems. They're learning to use the Read–Draw–Write process to solve addition and subtraction problems where part of the information is missing. Through stories like "Some frogs jumped off the log," students practice counting on and counting back to find what's unknown. Encourage your child to explain their drawing and number sentence when solving problems at home.

This week in literacy, first graders will continue exploring informational texts in both English and Spanish through our Endangered Animals unit. Students will research their chosen animal and learn to identify its classification—mammal, reptile, bird, fish, or amphibian—while comparing and contrasting information across texts. They will also bridge vocabulary between English and Spanish to deepen understanding and make cross-language connections. In Spanish, students will practice reading and writing words with g (ga, gue, gui, go, gu) and verb endings -amos, -emos, and -imos using words like llegamos, seguimos, jugamos, and pagamos. Please continue to support your child by discussing animal classifications, practicing vocabulary, and reading together for 20 minutes each day in both languages.
