Happy February! This week, we will be conducting WIDA testing. To help us maintain a focused environment and minimize disruptions, please ensure students arrive at school on time. We appreciate your support!
This week, we will keep on adding a 2-digit number plus a 1-digit number. And we will begin solving subtraction Math problems with totals between 11 and 19. At home, practice with your student how to subtract 1-digit numbers from 2-digit numbers. For example: 16 – 2 = 14. Have them explain the strategy that they used to help them solve. Encourage them to share in Spanish.
This week in literacy, students will continue exploring family narratives in both Spanish and English. In Spanish (SLA), we will read a new family story to practice asking and answering comprehension questions, and in word study students will learn verb endings -ía, -íamos, -aba, -aban, and -abas, using words like viajaba, jugaban, visitaban, and comíamos in sentences. In English (ELA), we will continue working on Small Moments, or zoomed-in parts of a narrative, and begin using the five senses—smell, taste, touch, sight, and hearing—to add detail to our storytelling. Please continue discussing narratives and small moments at home as students begin telling their own stories.
