What We're Learning Lo Que Estamos Aprendiendo

Welcome · Math · Literacy Bienvenida · Mates · Lectura

From your teacher De tu maestra

This is a short week, as there is no school for students on Monday. With snow expected this weekend, we hope families have a chance to enjoy it—whether by playing outside or staying warm and cozy indoors. As we continue learning about family narratives, take a moment to turn your snow day into a family story by talking, drawing, or writing about what you did together. We look forward to seeing students back at school ready to share their stories! Please keep an eye out for any announcements about any possible weather-related closures or delays in the coming week.

This week, we will focus on adding and subtracting a one-digit number to or from a two-digit number. At home, have your child solve subtraction problems with teen numbers, such as 15 − 7 = __, 18 − 5 = __, and 17 − 6 = __. Ask them to explain the strategy they used to solve each problem, and encourage them to share their thinking in Spanish.

This week in literacy, in Spanish class (SLA) students will read to identify how an author presents a problem and its solution in a story and practice recognizing what the character does to solve it. They will also describe events in order using sequence words such as first, next, then, and finally to strengthen comprehension and sequencing skills. In English (ELA), we will continue exploring Small Moments, or zoomed-in parts of a narrative, and use the five senses—smell, taste, touch, sight, and hearing—to add detail to our storytelling. Please continue discussing narratives and small moments at home as students begin sharing their own stories.
