Math News Noticias de Matemáticas

This week in Module 4, we are learning to compare and measure lengths! Students will start by comparing the heights of objects directly and indirectly, using math reasoning to figure out which are taller or shorter and ordering them from shortest to tallest. Then they will move on to actually measuring objects using centimeter cubes, learning to line them up carefully without gaps to find exact lengths.

During this unit, one type of problem we will be working on is comparison problems (e.g., "How many more?" or "How much longer?"), which can often be tricky for students. We have created a fun, interactive practice page where your child can work through comparison problems at home: Comparison Practice

How you can help at home: Ask your child to compare the heights of everyday objects around the house. For example, "Which is taller, the salt shaker or the pepper grinder?" or "Can you line up your stuffed animals from shortest to tallest?"

In Spanish, we will read two new family stories. We will practice reading comprehension and learn to retell a story, including all its elements (characters, settings, events, and lesson or message). In word study, we will work with verb endings –aría, -ería, -iría, –ara, -iera. At home, you can practice dividing words into syllables, and reading and writing sentences using words such as: hablar, hablaría, hablarían, comer, comería, comerías.

In ELA we are continuing to practice words with digraphs. Digraphs are two letters that make one sound. Keep practicing your heart words at home! In ARC we are continuing to write our Small Moments. Continue to talk to your student about feelings and the 5 senses.
