It's the last week of May, and we'll be celebrating our May birthdays this Friday. Friday is also our Asian American, Native Hawaiian, and Pacific Islander (AANHPI) Heritage Month Celebration. Please join us on the soccer field at 5:30 p.m. for an evening of food, performances, and activities for all ages!

With end-of-year assessments underway, the best things you can do at home are simple: encouragement, a good night's sleep, and a good breakfast. Thank you, dear families, for all your collaboration this year.

¡Es la última semana de mayo y este viernes celebraremos los cumpleaños de mayo! El viernes también será nuestra Celebración del Mes de la Herencia Asiática Americana, Nativa Hawaiana y de las Islas del Pacífico (AANHPI). ¡Acompáñennos en el campo de fútbol a las 5:30 p.m. para disfrutar de una tarde de comida, presentaciones y actividades para todas las edades!

This week, students will take the end-of-year i-Ready assessment and review concepts from Module 6. We'll keep working on equal shares — folding, cutting, and partitioning shapes into halves and fourths (quarters). Students discuss whether the shares are equal and discover that the more equal parts a whole has, the smaller each part becomes. We're also practicing telling time to the half hour using the phrase half past.

At home, your child would love to:

• Cut a sandwich into 2 or 4 equal pieces and name each piece — «1 half» or «1 fourth».
• Break a snack (crackers, a cheese slice) into halves or quarters, and talk about where to make the cuts so the parts are equal.
• Read a clock together at the half hour — «It's half past 7!»

Esta semana, los estudiantes tomarán la evaluación i-Ready de fin de año y repasarán conceptos del Módulo 6. Seguiremos trabajando con las partes iguales — doblando, cortando y dividiendo figuras en mitades y cuartos. In SLA, we're reading informational and narrative texts about the first inhabitants of Spanish America — the Maya, Aztec, and Inca civilizations — learning how they farmed, built, and kept records. We're also finishing the end-of-year mCLASS reading assessment.

How you can help in Spanish at home:

• Practice reading aloud — set a one-minute timer and reread a short text to build fluency and accuracy.
• Read together and talk about it:
— «¿De qué se trata este texto?»
— «¿Qué significa la palabra _____ en esta oración?»

In ELA, we're wrapping up our unit on American Symbols and talking about Memorial Day — what it means and why we observe it. Ask your child about the symbols we've studied: the American flag, the Statue of Liberty, the Liberty Bell, and the bald eagle — and what each one stands for.

How you can help in English at home:

• Read together every day — about 20 minutes, anything your child enjoys in English.
• Practice heart words — the tricky words we can't fully sound out.

Hello 1st Grade Families!

It's the last week of May, and we'll be celebrating our May birthdays this Friday. Friday is also our Asian American, Native Hawaiian, and Pacific Islander (AANHPI) Heritage Month Celebration. Please join us on the soccer field at 5:30 p.m. for an evening of food, performances, and activities for all ages! With end-of-year assessments underway, the best things you can do at home are simple: encouragement, a good night's sleep, and a good breakfast. Thank you, dear families, for all your collaboration this year.

Math News

This week, students will take the end-of-year i-Ready assessment and review concepts from Module 6. We'll keep working on equal shares — folding, cutting, and partitioning shapes into halves and fourths (quarters). Students discuss whether the shares are equal and discover that the more equal parts a whole has, the smaller each part becomes. We're also practicing telling time to the half hour using the phrase half past.

At home, your child would love to:

• Cut a sandwich into 2 or 4 equal pieces and name each piece — «1 half» or «1 fourth».
• Break a snack (crackers, a cheese slice) into halves or quarters, and talk about where to make the cuts so the parts are equal.
• Read a clock together at the half hour — «It's half past 7!»

Literacy News

In SLA, we're reading informational and narrative texts about the first inhabitants of Spanish America — the Maya, Aztec, and Inca civilizations — learning how they farmed, built, and kept records. We're also finishing the end-of-year mCLASS reading assessment.

How you can help in Spanish at home:

• Practice reading aloud — set a one-minute timer and reread a short text to build fluency and accuracy.
• Read together and talk about it:
— «¿De qué se trata este texto?»
— «¿Qué significa la palabra _____ en esta oración?»

In ELA, we're wrapping up our unit on American Symbols and talking about Memorial Day — what it means and why we observe it. Ask your child about the symbols we've studied: the American flag, the Statue of Liberty, the Liberty Bell, and the bald eagle — and what each one stands for.

How you can help in English at home:

• Read together every day — about 20 minutes, anything your child enjoys in English.
• Practice heart words — the tricky words we can't fully sound out.
